19 year old Biker sentenced to 30 years imprisonment,Techiman Circuit Court checkout the story.Aug 25, 2021

The Techiman Circuit Court presided over by His Lordship Justice Alexander Graham has sentenced a 19-year-old Motorking rider to 30 years imprisonment.

The convict, Bawa Ebenezer, a resident of Nsuta near Techiman in the Bono East Region was arrested on Saturday after robbing two students of the Yeboah Asuamah SHS at about 3:35 am in their room.

Prosecuting Officer, Inspector Emmanuel Kudalor told JoyNews that “this is a case of armed robbery which occurred on Saturday, August 21. The accused person attacked them whilst they were sleeping in their room and forcefully asked them to hand over their personal belongings to him”.

Inspector Kudalor further noted that “because of the spate and the increase in robbery activities in this area, the court deemed it fit to give him a sentence that would deter others from committing the same crime”.

The accused pleaded guilty on three out of the five counts before he was sentenced.

Techiman Circuit Court sentences 19-year-old man to 30 years imprisonment for robbery

The counts include unlawful entry contrary to section 152 of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (act 29) and robbery contrary to 149 of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (act 29).“

In this circumstance, the court in its wisdom gave him 3 years on count one, 30 years on count two and 30 years on count four. The sentences are to run concurrently,” Inspector Kudalor added.

One of the victims, a final year student of the Yeboah Asuamah Senior High School told JoyNews that “the convict broke into our room at about 3am and threatened to kill me  and my roommate if we fail to give him our phones. Out of fear, we gave him the phones and he attempted to do something nasty, that was when I struggled with him and he used the scissors to cut my hand before bolting away”.

The presiding judge, Justice Alexander Graham in his ruling stated that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others and help reduce armed robbery attacks in the area.

History : Abesim Chief And His Wife Killed A Pregnant Woman At Same Area Fireman Killed The 3 Boys

0

History keeps repeating itself. However bad History is something we don’t wish for it’s repetition. Let me tell you a story about how a chief of Abesim who was the occupant of the Krontire stool and his wife murderered a pregnant woman On 23rd February 1988.

This happened at Abesim the same location where the three boys were gruesomely Murdered by Richard Gyamfi Appiah ( Fireman).

Historically, the Ghana Armed Forces arrested Nana Twene and his wife Susana Ameyaa for killing a pregnant woman for rituals. The murdered was 38 years old Madam Lamley Sampa.

When Nana Twene the then Abesim krontihene was interrogated, he denied his involvement. However, his accomplice gathered courage and spoke the truth. They explained that Nana Twene wanted the blood and body parts of the pregnant woman for a powerful ritual.

A ritual which will enable him speak without any challenge in the Abesim palace or wherever he finds himself. After trial in the local tribunal, Nana Twene and his accomplice were sentenced to death. All his properties were also confiscated by the state.

How the murderers were killed was iconic. After the shooting, his body was brought to the Abesim town. The soldiers tied up the body behind a car and pulled it on the ground. Women and children reportedly followed the vehicle as they sang and danced.

His wife was also sentenced to life imprisonment where she died after spending twelve years at Nsawam.

In March 2004, the children of Nana Twene Petitioned President John Agyekum Kufuor through the National Reconciliation Commission to release the properties of their father for them. According to them, they still feel that he was innocent. They accused the then Rawlings regime of not going deeper in the case. Their efforts was booked but never attended to.

Now you know. This is not the first time a ritual murder case from Abesim made headlines. By the way, could there be laws to kill Richard Gyamfi Appiah like how Nana Twene was shot to death?

MYHELP-YOURHELP FOUNDATION EMBARKS ON FEEDING STREET KIDS IN PARTS OF ACCRA

0

The youth constitute the most important human resource potential that can contribute significantly to the overall development of a nation. The total population of children in Ghana under the age of 15 is 37.44% according to Ghana Demographics Profile for July 2020 [1].

The idea of children on the streets violates the children’s act which states that “under no circumstance should a person below the age of fifteen (15) be allowed to work or fend for himself or herself” [2]. Therefore, the increasing phenomenon of streetism, which is used to describe children who live and work on the streets due to lack of family ties or worse still, stuck in manipulative relationships where their guardians use them to support the household financially through various activities on the street is a menace.

Streetism has been caused largely by increased urbanization and the difficult socio-economic circumstances rural families are experiencing. There are many root causes for the increasing number of street children in Accra and these are highly related. Some children are on the streets because they were subjected to a certain level of abuse at home, and they believe that the street will be a place of refuge. Others are underprivileged and take to the streets in search of money. Most of these underprivileged children are homeless because of the impact of divorce, death of a parent(s) or parent(s) not being able to fend for their children. Therefore, streetism in Ghana can be attributed to parental neglect or death, truancy, rural-urban migration, second generational street children, mental health issues and sexual, physical or emotional abuse. [3] A majority of street children in Accra can be found in Central Accra, Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Madina, Abeka-Lapaz and Kaneshie.

According to research conducted in 2018 by Henrietta Afful [4], over sixty-one thousand four hundred and ninety-two children (61,492) are on the streets of Accra struggling to make ends meet.  In 2010, a head count of street children was done in Accra. The result obtained showed that 43% of the total population were male and 57% were female. The largest number of street children came from the Savannah and Northern Regions of Ghana forming 28.53% of the children found in the streets of Accra. The smallest number of children found in the streets of Accra were from the Bono and Ahafo Regions contributing 2.38% to the total population of street children in Accra [5]. Street children are subjected to very harsh conditions. Hunger is one that cannot be over emphasized.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of people going hungry and suffering from food insecurity worldwide had been gradually rising since 2014. Unfortunately, the pandemic has intensified the vulnerabilities and inadequacies of global food systems, which could add hundreds of millions of people to the chronically undernourished, making the goal of ending hunger a more distant one. Ghana is not left out of these statistics.
Myhelp-Yourhelp Foundation, as part of its 3rd year anniversary celebration and in line with its core mandate in attending to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 2), Zero Hunger coupled with the need to fulfill scripture in Matthew 25:35 (For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in) consented to  embark on a food and drinks distribution to street kids in some parts of Accra, the capital city of Ghana. This took place on the 31st of July 2021 and the theme: “Feed a child, save a life” was adopted to mark the occasion. Food distribution started from Opeibea Bus Stop to Madina Zongo-Junction and back to the Accra Retail Centre. Five hundred (500) bags containing packs of assorted food, assorted drinks, water and pastries were distributed. Approximately forty (40) members of the organization converged at the Accra retail centre at 7am. Prayer and a word of exhortation was shared by Mrs Love Acheampong followed by a brief address by the CEO and the Founder of the Foundation in the person of Mr. Nicholas Cofie. The members present then hit the road for the food distribution.

The hitherto sombre expressions on the faces of these kids metamorphosed. Their faces lit up with impish glee as they received the packages.  The remarks from the recipients were so heartwarming.

He indicated that the foundation would have loved to do much more than it has done, but is constrained by funds as it relies mostly on the contributions of its members to undertake its projects. But he believes in a quote by Hudson Taylor — “God’s work done in God’s way will never lack God’s supply”.
He applauded the following sponsors.

He also thanked all who stood in the gap to pray toward the success of the program.
