“22yrs ago, we started on a Hip-life Journey with the passion to be heard… I just wanted people to hear my Raps. I didn’t want to be a celebrity, I didn’t want to be an icon, I didn’t want to be a Star…all I wanted was for my song to be played on radio, just once. Now, I get called to meetings my father only dreamt about, I get waved at in public, I get Awards for just doing my work and loving it. This is because my initial dream of wanting to be heard was extended by You (THE FAN) when you told me how much you loved my music, when you laughed at my Mohawk, when you criticized my wrong moves, when you liked my pictures on social media, when you bought my music, when you sent me direct messages to better my life. Today, I just want to say THANK YOU. Some of the people we started this with are dead (deceased)..Dasebre3 Dwamena, OmanHene Pozo, Micheal Dwamena and many others. 22yrs after my entry, you still like my tweets, buy my music, quote my raps and give me Awards. I just want to say THANK YOU AGAIN. Now I don’t want you to just hear me, I want to be a part of everything that will help develop OUR MOTHER GHANA”

In October 2018, Okyeame was appointed Made in Ghana Ambassador by the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

He has been using his ‘Made in Ghana’ album and social media platforms to promote this cause.

In tandem with his objective, the Rap Dacta as he is affectionately called, has launched OK Impressions, a pyjamas line made with local fabric. He has, also on the market, Sante’s Hair – ladies hair produced in Ghana.

About ‘Buy Ghana Rice’ campaign

It fits into a Citi FM campaign dubbed ‘Operation Feed Yourself, which encourages farming for food security and economic gains.

It has been approved and supported by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and the Ministry of Information.

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture, says it is in talks with 20 major importers of rice into Ghana to get them to rely on locally produced rice for both domestic consumption and export.

Institutions like the Ghana Buffer Stock Company have stepped in to support some rice farmers in the Upper East Region after Citi News reported about how their investments were going waste due to lack of a ready market for their produce.

Other media houses have also joined the campaign, as a conversation on the consumption of local rice is also ongoing on both traditional media and social media, and this is hopefully to reduce the importation of 330 million dollars’ worth of rice annually into the country.
