The IT Consultant for the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana known as Dr. Yaw Ofori-Adjei, has said four companies have so far been seeded for the procurement of the Biometric Verification Systems for the compilation of a new voters’ register.

In his Speech, he made it known that, a physical infrastructure is currently also in place for a data center to be established in 8 weeks to compile all electoral data in the build up to the 2020 general elections.

We have some four companies that have so far been shortlisted for the procurement of Biometric Verification Systems for the compilation of the new voters register. The previous managers of the Biometric Verification System advised the EC that the system needed an upgrade and gave good, cogent reasons why the upgrade was needed. With these new equipments, a facial recognition machine will be used extensively for several purposes; forensics, border control systems, and the elections. It’s a technology that has been used and verified.

“For example, these new machines will capture your facial signature and compare it to what is on the record and this is not aimed at eliminating the fingerprint method,” Ofori-Adjei told Citi FM on January 23, GhanaWeb monitored.

Cameroonian Journalist reveals how Black Stars was not safe under Kwesi Appiah

0

A celebrated Cameroonian sports journalist, known as Angu Lesley has said, the Black Stars was not safe under former coach, James Kwesi Appiah, and has praised the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for deteriorating an extension of his contract.

Speaking in an interview with Bryt FM, Angu Lesley asserted that the GFA took a decision he had been waiting for and is full of admiration for them after parting ways with Kwesi Appiah.

Check out what he said during the interview:

“Let me congratulate the new executives of the GFA because they took a decision which I have been waiting for quite a long time. I felt that the Black Stars was not in safe hands under Kwesi Appiah” he emphasized.

“I monitored Kwesi Appiah during the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) and looking at his body language, he wasn’t a winner” he added.

Akonnor was named Black Stars boss last week by the GFA, taking over from Kwesi Appiah.

According to him, giving the team to Akonnor is the brave step by the Ghana FA as he believes his current role serves as a platform for him to bring everything he did at Kotoko on board after taking the Kumasi based club in the group stages of the CAF Confederations Cup.

Former Ghana international John Painstil is confident the Black Stars see off the threat from opponents to top Group G of 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

The Africa’s form of the 2022 World Cup draw was held few days ago in Cairo, Egypt. The draw saw Ghana alongside South Africa, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia in Group G.

The Black Stars who have played in three World Cup tournament will be hoping to secure qualification to the 2022 World Cup to be staged in Qatar after failing to book a place at the last edition in Russia 2018.

Responding to the draw on Happy FM, legendary defender John Painstil disagreed with Ghana’s easy group tag but insisted the four-time champions will make it out from Group G.

Check out what he said about the draw:

“Looking at Ghana’s group, you might see it as an easy group but the game is changing so we need to prepare and train well so there are small teams but I am sure that we will definitely top the group.”

“Zimbabwe is not an easy team to beat at home; same for Ethiopia. Those teams are well motivated to beat us because it is Ghana they’re playing.”

“Playing away in Zimbabwe is always difficult unlike South Africa because they understand the game.”
